Disaster Relief Donations
Since our founding in 1913, we’ve been an ally to communities and the government in times of need, including health crises and natural disasters, starting with World War II, when bleach was used to disinfect wounds, neutralize enemy gases and purify water. And whether it was H1N1, Hurricane Katrina, or COVID-19, we made product donations to help with disaster-relief efforts, largely through our primary disaster relief partner, American Red Cross, and to support schools, food banks and other nonprofit organizations that serve communities in need.
Clorox is proud to support American Red Cross for over 40 years and to be an Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) member. Throughout that partnership, we have donated more than $16 million in financial support, countless in-kind donations, grants, and employee support, including providing over $1 million in COVID-19 relief. We were proud to be recently named the 2020 Red Cross Gala Philanthropic Company of the Year.
This past year, The Clorox Company Foundation and our brands focused our product donations to provide relief in the fight against COVID-19. Through our partnership with American Red Cross, we supplemented our monetary donations with Clorox® disinfecting wipes and bleach. Through our partnership with Direct Relief, we supported their vaccine clinics with cash and Clorox® disinfecting wipes. While we donated to national public health organizations, we also wanted to help people in the communities where our employees live and work. Clorox regional offices and plants supported the communities of Rogers, Arkansas; Sunrise and Palm Harbor, Florida; Houston, Texas; Parsons, West Virginia; Kennesaw and Alpharetta, Georgia; and Willowbrook, Illinois, giving more than 25,000 canisters of Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to local fire, police and emergency services.
The fair market value of our U.S. product donations alone amounted to $13.4 million in fiscal year 2020.
