Stories from our people: Katina Townsend

It’s been 18 years since her first interview with Clorox, but Katina Townsend — Senior Finance Manger – Cleaning based in North Carolina—remembers it well. “I’d been going on interviews and getting a blowout so my hair would be straight for my interview. And I decided, when I go to this interview, they’re just going to get this afro. And I got the job. I thought, ‘Okay, this is the place I want to work. These people are cool.’”

Katina has made the most of the Clorox benefit package during her tenure. “I went back to school and used the Education Assistance Program to get my MBA,” she says. “It allowed me to go into finance,  planning and analysis, and even bring that knowledge to our operations and supply chain at the Morrisville plant and across the Cleaning Manufacturing Network. It’s been a blessing to me,” says Katina. “This isn’t just a place to work. It is a place where you can develop and grow.”

Katina has held many roles throughout Clorox, but she can easily sum up her current one. “I’m the money girl,” she jokes. “We have to manage the budget, any forecasts, and then any actual reporting,” she explains. “Another piece of it is looking at our inventory, raw materials, packaging materials, scrap and production waste and seeing where we can get more efficient and lower those costs. Even though those don’t impact our plant budgets, they do impact the Cleaning business overall.”

“This isn’t just a place to work. It is a place where you can develop
and grow.”

“Opportunities for improvement show up in dollars for me,” she continues. “When they do, I talk to our operations leadership team and say, ‘Hey, this is what we’re seeing. What does it mean on the operation side? Is there something that we can do to fix it?’ It’s all about making choices operationally that will give us better results financially.”
