Carrying the torch for safety

By Clint Judy, Health, Safety, and Environmental Coordinator – Supply Chain
This year marked our second Olympiad of sorts at our Kingsford plant in Parsons, West Virginia.
The Summer Safety Games give us the opportunity to dive into some truly unique team competitions that not only challenge us, but also help us sharpen our skills in meaningful ways. Here are some of our “official events”:
Our teammates tackled the fork truck obstacle course, which was a fantastic way to get more comfortable and skillful with this essential machinery.
The water battle is an intense but fun exercise that can improve our firefighting abilities and teach us the importance of staying calm under pressure.
The skid steer obstacle course put precision and focus to the test, simulating the kind of routine activities we might face on the job.
We took part in tabletop games designed to stretch our comprehension skills and get us thinking strategically.
If you want to check out the competition, here’s a video of the individual events.
These creative, out-of-the-box activities aren’t just about friendly competition — they’re about building trust and teamwork. Most importantly, they help us advance our shared goal: ensuring everyone goes home safely every night.
