Operations

Operations

Reducing the environmental impact of our operations means engaging our entire organization in making changes big and small throughout our manufacturing, distribution, and office facilities.

And to provide the focus and motivation to do so, we have set new footprint reduction goals. For each case of product sold, we will reduce GHG emissions, energy use, and water use by 10 percent, and solid waste by 20 percent, all by 2013.

Energy Use

We are committed to minimize energy use from each and every one of our facilities worldwide. That’s why we’re investing in more energy efficient equipment and employing more eco efficient manufacturing practices. Reducing energy not only reduces our costs; it’s also better for the environment.

Goal

We made a public pledge to reduce its energy use by 10 percent per case of product sold from 2007 to 2013.

Major Accomplishments

While we’re proud of what we have been able to accomplish, we know it’s only a start. To help us meet our energy goals, we’ve contracted with an outside bill pay agency that pays all of our energy bills. This service provides access to a web-based database that allows facility managers to track and minimize energy usage. So far, we’ve completed lighting retrofits to high efficiency T5/T8 fluorescent bulbs with motion sensors in all of our North American facilities. And we continue to expand the lighting retrofit program to all of our international locations.

We’ve also initiated energy audits at our facilities in order to find out where the other opportunities for energy reduction are. In 2010, ten plants in North America conducted extensive energy audits. These audits zeroed in on operating equipment, air compressor systems and HVAC systems, and revealed the various ways that our operating energy could be reduced by using these systems more efficiently. As a result, these plants came up with a list of recommendations and action items to reduce their energy footprint over the next calendar year.
