100 Percent Proud of Corporate Equality Index Score

Clorox has earned another 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s 2014 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and been named one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.”  HRC is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices relevant to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.

In 2005, Clorox participated in the CEI for the first time to benchmark our LGBT efforts. Our score was low, signaling that we needed to make some changes if we really wanted to have an all-inclusive work environment that everyone could be proud of.

By 2006, employees from our Pride LGBT employee resource group, helped us make important progress, and Clorox has been rated 100 percent in the CEI ever since.

As part of the Diversity & Inclusion team and an ally of LGBT employees, I see this 100 percent rating as a public affirmation of Clorox’s commitment to our LGBT employees and our reputation as a socially responsible company.  We no longer consider the CEI rating just a “nice-to-have” benchmark. Together with Legal, Human Resources and Supplier Diversity, we ensure we are on track with our employee policies and benefits, as well as certify that we partner with nondiscriminatory organizations and suppliers.

BPTW_14-4CWorking in this group, it is fantastic to have an impact on LGBT issues and help create an environment where fully engaged employees of different generations, cultures and lifestyles are empowered to use their diversity of thought to drive greater innovation.

It’s also exciting to hear how passionately and publically our senior leadership supports LGBT equality. Creating a workplace that values diversity and strives for inclusion is yet another way we live out our company value of “Do the Right Thing.” This is an important recognition for our company, and the score reinforces a terrific culture that encourages everyone to bring their full self to work every day!
