Did You Know? Clorox Company Environmental Sustainability Facts

> Green Works™ cleaners are made from 99 percent natural plant-based ingredients and work as well as conventional cleaners on most soils. And Green Works™ bottles are 100 percent recyclable.

> About 95 percent to 98 percent of household bleach - made up of sodium hypochlorite and water - quickly breaks down into salt and water upon use. The remaining 2 percent to 5 percent breaks down to form by-products effectively treated by municipal wastewater treatment plants or septic systems.

> Clorox® liquid bleach helps save energy by providing disinfecting and superior stain removal in lower wash temperatures than detergent alone. In fact, by using sodium hypochlorite bleach, hospitals have been able to disinfect their laundry wash water at 70 degrees F instead of 160 degrees F.

> According to Dr. Abel Wolman, former president, American Public health Association, sodium hypochlorite, the basic ingredient in Clorox® liquid bleach, has saved more lives than any other substance made by man, due to its ability to reduce waterborne disease.

> Glad® ForceFlex® trash bags help save more than 1 million pounds of plastic film per year compared to regular trash bags, yet they're stronger because they stretch.

> A single Brita® pitcher and filter (1 pound of plastic) can replace 300 standard 16.9 ounce containers of bottled water (15 pounds of plastic), thus saving energy and the use of petrochemicals to make plastic. And that doesn't include the fuel needed to transport bottled
water from plant to store.

> Kingsford® charcoal manufacturing facilities purchase waste wood for charcoal production from area wood products businesses, thereby diverting it from the waste stream.

> The pine oil in Pine-Sol® cleaner is a waste by-product from the kraft paper pulp industry. Made from wood pulp, kraft paper is a coarse paper of the type typically used for grocery sacks.

> More than 90 percent of our U.S. product cartons (not corrugated cases) are made from 100 percent recycled content.

> Clorox Australia received the Silver award in 2004 and Gold award in 2005 from the Packaging Council of Australia. Ninety-one percent of all waste generated at Clorox facilities in Australia is reused or recycled.

> In 2007, our headquarters office in Oakland, Calif., received the prestigious Energy Star® rating for our use of energy-efficient products and practices. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that promotes protecting the environment through energy-efficient products and practices.
