Building on Our Environmental Record

The Clorox Company has a long-standing commitment to responsible environmental stewardship. We're proud of our accomplishments and the recognition we've received over the years; at the same time, we know there's much more to be done. Below are just some examples of the environmental awards and recognition we hope to build on as we continue our work to create a more environmentally responsible company.
Recent Recognition
- In 2007, we earned the Energy Star rating from the Environmental Protection Agency for our headquarters building in Oakland, Calif. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that promotes protecting the environment through energy-efficient products and practices.
- In 2007, the Chlorine Institute recognized our U.S. manufacturing facilities with the Institute's Environmental Award for nine years without a reportable chlorine release.

In 2006, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection recognized our Kingsford® charcoal plant in Parsons, W. Va., with an Environmental excellence award. Ours was the only facility in the state with more than 100 employees to be honored.
- In 2006, our Aldo Bonzi, Argentina, plant received the Certificate of Environmental Aptitude from the Argentina Environmental Agency for its environmental management procedures.
- In 2005, our operations in Australia received a gold award from the Packaging Council of Australia for their packaging covenant and sustainability action plan.
- In 2005, the Chlorine Institute recognized our U.S. bleach plants and our Puerto Rico operation with an Environmental Achievement Award. The international institute helps support continual safety improvements and the protection of health and the environment related to the production, distribution and use of chlorine and other raw materials.
Notable Past Recognition
- In 1998 and 1996, we were honored as a WasteWise Program Champion. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise program promotes the development of corporate recycling programs.
- In 1993, Fortune magazine listed The Clorox Company as one of the top 10 companies in environmental management, citing the company's continuing reduction of airborne releases and further elimination of virgin material from product packaging.
- In 1992, our manufacturing facility in Aberdeen, Md., was one of only three buildings worldwide to receive the Distinguished Environmental Planning Award from the Industrial Development Research Council. We were selected based on our attention to energy conservation and preservation of a wetlands area on the 150-acre site of the new plant.
- In 1992, we were named an Honor Roll Company for our achievements in environmental quality management by the National Environmental Development Association.
