Clorox People in the Community

Clorox People in the Community

Clorox employees are known for generously giving time and money to help support the communities where we live and do business. Read just a few examples of how Clorox people make a positive difference every day.

Taking the Plunge to Fight Cancer in Amherst, Va.
A group of machine operators and managers from our Amherst, Va., Kingsford® charcoal plant took more than a few plunges in 2006 in a dunking booth to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Several other employees managed to stay drier and raised funds by walking in the Relay for Life, which raised more than $95,000 for cancer research and awareness.

Fairfield, Calif., Plant Hosts 11th Annual Science Fair
Our Fairfield, Calif., laundry and home-care products plant hosted the 11th Annual Fairfield High School Science Fair in April 2006. Each year, members of the Fairfield plant staff coordinate project entries, and develop and print programs for the fair. They also recruit judges from local businesses, and help with fair logistics and judging during the event. Participation has increased dramatically since the fair began; this past year, more than 400 students from four high schools presented 190 projects.

Paulsboro, N.J., Plant Supports After-School Programs
Since the early 2000s, our Paulsboro, N.J., STP® auto-additives plant has focused its volunteer efforts on programs that enhance the lives and education of local children. In summer 2006, the plant worked with Paulsboro Elementary School and the Boys and Girls Club to provide funding for joint, after-school activities for local children. Without these supplemental programs, many underprivileged children in the area would not have the opportunity to experience the same kind of learning and fellowship. The school, the club, the mayor and the state assemblyman recognized the Paulsboro plant for its continued support of children in the community.

Alpharetta, Ga., Office CARES for Atlanta Community
The Clorox CARES (Community Action Requires Everyone's Support) group in our Alpharetta, Ga., office hosted a community day in 2006 to raise money and recruit volunteers for local nonprofit organizations in the greater Atlanta community. Funded in part by The Clorox Company Foundation, the event was held at Lazarus House, a nonprofit outreach organization dedicated to fighting homelessness, hunger and poverty. Clorox employees welcomed nearly 400 attendees to the event, which featured food, entertainment, games, information, a blood drive and more. Enough money was raised to feed more than 300 families.

Spirited in Canada
The Clorox Canada office in Brampton, Ontario, in 2006 won a regional United Way "Outstanding Employee Campaign" Spirit award. The Spirit awards recognize extraordinary talent, creativity and dedication shown by volunteers, organizations and corporations in their campaigns to support United Way. Clorox's 100-person Canada team received the award for hosting a slew of creative events that raised more than $17,000 U.S.

Providing Relief to Hurricane Katrina Victims
Our home-cleaning products plant in Jackson, Miss., lent a hand to Habitat for Humanity's "Operation Home Delivery" for Hurricane Katrina victims. In addition to the generous relief efforts of our Jackson and Houston plants, the company responded to hurricanes Katrina and Rita by donating more than 75,000 gallons of Clorox® bleach, 1.1 million Glad® trash bags, 29,000 bottles of Pine-Sol® cleaner, 75,000 canisters of Clorox® disinfecting wipes, 17,000 bottles of Formula 409® cleaner, 40,000 pounds of Scoop Away® cat litter and $250,000 in aid to the American Red Cross.
