The Clorox Company Foundation

2007 Annual Report

Established in 1980, The Clorox Foundation has donated millions of dollars to programs in two key areas: K-12 education and youth development, as well as cultural and civic vitality. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded grants totaling $69.7 million to nonprofit organizations and, in fiscal year 2007, donated products, including supplies of bleach and other products, to regions affected by natural disasters. Since the company's beginnings, Clorox and its people have worked to improve life in the neighborhoods, towns and cities the company calls home.

Report by sections:

Earth Team: Creating Environmental Stewards (PDF)

With a grant from Clorox in 2007, Earth Team helped connect inner-city youth, often disassociated from the environment, with other students around the Bay to restore diverse vegetation, clean up creeks and shorelines and create media to share their restoration experience.

BUILD: Gaining business savvy through real-world experience (PDF)

How do you provide underserved youth with the resources they need to succeed? BUILD decisively answers this question by delivering an after-school entrepreneurial program that
empowers youth from at-risk communities. With the help of mentors and financial support from Clorox, BUILD has grown from a pilot in one school to a program serving close to 140 students in four Oakland high schools.

The Crucible: Firing up West Oakland’s youth (PDF)

The Crucible uses a unique approach to achieve its mission of fostering arts, industry and community: It provides West Oakland youth with fire, metal, glass and light arts. In the process, the nonprofit group also demonstrates success in a neighborhood plagued with social inequities.

Youth Uprising: Elevating youth voices (PDF)

Imagine a youth development center designed by underserved students with programs that match their interests and needs. That center is Youth Uprising (YU). YU provides both drop-in and structured youth development classes, and has created 200 jobs since opening its doors in 2005. A grant from Clorox helps YU continue valuable career and education programs for Oakland’s resilient youth.

Junior Center of Art and Science: Fostering exploration and creativity (PDF)

JCAS celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2004, kicking off a capital campaign to expand its facilities. Recognizing the organization’s long-term commitment to fostering youth development, Clorox provided a grant to help continue that commitment by supporting the center’s 5th Grade Arts Scholarship program.
