The Clorox Company Foundation

The mission of The Clorox Company Foundation is to improve the quality of life in communities where Clorox employees live and work. Community involvement is an integral part of our business and is carried out through a program of grant-making, volunteerism and leadership in community service.

The Clorox Company Foundation endorses the Standards of Excellence in Community Relations, developed by the Boston College Center for Corporate Community Relations. The center honored Clorox in March 1998 as the first company to adopt the standards.

Seizing Opportunity

Clorox's founders first created sodium hypochlorite bleach using brine from the nearby salt ponds of San Francisco Bay. They began selling an industrial-strength product to laundries, breweries, walnut processing sheds and municipal water companies. In 1914, they reformulated the product for household use and named it Clorox® bleach.
