Talk about productive. As plant manager for Glad®, Angela oversees 400 employees, who make and package over one million cases of products a month. In addition to leading a core operations group, Angela manages planning organizations that order raw materials, maintain production plans, and schedule delivery of finished products to distribution centers. She also oversees an engineering organization that helps maintain and improve equipment and an administrative group that handles accounting and human resources activities.
How can one woman do so much? Before the birth of her twins, Tia and Cory, now six -years old, Angela was famous for working long hours: 5:30 a.m. until about 7:00 p.m.
After the arrival of her children, Angela realized she'd spent a lot of time developing her people but stood in the way of giving them opportunities to lead. "Because I was always there." When she took off for maternity leave, her team rose to the occasion. "I was so proud of them. More importantly, they were proud of themselves."
The experience taught Angela how to be a better leader. "To be truly successful in the Product Supply Organization, you have to do more than deliver results. You need to build strong, sustaining systems and develop skilled, passionate leaders. Teach people well, provide them great tools, then get out of the way and let them shine."
